Cremona, March 27 – The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Futurity welcomed the first competitors in the CremonaFiere arena today. Opening the ninth edition of the event was the qualifying go-round of the Open Futurity open to 4-year-old horses enrolled in the NRHA European Nomination Program.
In a field of 100 horses, NRHA Professional Guglielmo Fontana of Italy took the lead in the Euro 98,000-added Level (L)4 and Euro 38,000-added L3 divisions after posting a 224.5 aboard Whiz Wild West (Spark N Whiz x West Coast Oak), a 4-year-old gelding owned by Luga Quarter Horses. “I started working as head-trainer for Luga Quarter Horses last year and this horse was one that I immediately liked,” said Fontana. “He is an incredibly talented horse and as soon as he understands what he needs to do he will do it for you, no matter who is riding him. I am especially happy of this result because he is by Spark N Whiz, who is owned by Luga Quarter Horses and we stand him at our facility.” Fontana also qualified his second mount, Peppy Too Whiz, for the L4 and L3 finals with a 220 – the second highest score of the L3 division. This stallion, also by Spark N Whiz, is out of Nitabars Peppy Belle and is owned by Luga Quarter Horses.
Leading the first go of the Euro 21,000-added L2 division with a 218.5 is NRHA Professional Fabio Polesel riding his own Black Gotta Gun, a stallion by Dun Gotta Gun and out of Be My Sweet Surprise.
After scoring a 216.5, two riders tied to win the Euro10,000-added L1; NRHA Professional Sebastiano Valtorta aboard Luca Mauri’s Four Season Whiz (Topsail Whiz x Dun It Preciously) and NRHA Professional Matteo Cuniglio aboard Claudio Risso’s RS Canaletto Jac (RS Great Jac Feona x RS Red Moon Olena).
